.NET Services June 2009 QFE to be Released Thursday

According to the .NET Services Team blog, they’re going to release the June 2009 QFE on 6/18/2009 (Thursday). Users will have NO access to .NET Services Portal and .NET Services during the scheduled maintenance down time from 6/18/2009 noon to 6/18/2009 5pm.

There are a few things you should be aware if you’re using .NET Services like:

Queues and Routers data will NOT be persisted and restored after the maintenance. Users will need to back up their data if they wish to restore them after the QFE release.

Microsoft Set To Announce Commercial Availability of Windows Azure at PDC This Year 1

Microsoft is set to deliver Windows Azure to the public by the end of this year, with an imminent announcement at Microsoft’s Professional Developers Conference (PDC) in Los Angeles on November 17, 2009. 

When Steve Ballmer mentioned this February that Windows Azure “will reach fruition with the PDC this year” I didn’t really believed it, considering where the product was and how much we knew about the progress Microsoft was making on delivering Windows Azure and related services. Even TechEd this year was surprisingly quiet about Windows Azure, but this is just the silence before the storm. Microsoft is revving up the software development and marketing machine so at this year’s PDC cloud computing and Windows Azure will take again center stage.

Starting this summer with the 2009 Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC), New Orleans, July 13-16, we will see more and more announcements about Windows Azure. So what to expect in the next months? Continue reading…

Azure Developer Challenge 1

Today Microsoft announced the first Azure Services Platform Developer Challenge.

Over the next two months, developers will have the opportunity to show off what they can do on the  Azure Services Platform

There are a couple of surprise twists to this challenge.  The first twist is this contest will have three winners – best .NET application, a top PHP application, and one more we’ll talk about in just a bit.  For the .NET application category, you should build a .NET application running on Windows Azure using ASP.NET or Silverlight to incorporate additional Azure services such as .NET Services and Live Services.  Incorporate other Microsoft, 3rd party services, or other cloud services and author a unique web, mobile, or desktop application.

  • Microsoft® SQL Data Service

  • Microsoft® .NET Access Control Service

Azure Services Training Kit Feb 2009 Update

The Azure Services Training Kit was released the other day. It includes a comprehensive set of technical content including hands-on labs, presentations, and demos that are designed to help you learn how to use the Azure Services Platform.

The February release includes the following updates:

  • 19 demo scripts that walkthrough several of the services
  • 10 presentations covering the entire Azure Services Platform
  • 3 additional hands-on labs for Live Services

This technical content covers services including: Windows Azure, .NET Services, SQL Services, Live Services.
